PERMIT REQUIREMENTS FOR ADULTS

Permit Requirements for Adults,

If you are 18 years old, meet the application requirements, and pass the written test on traffic laws and road signs,  you may be issued a learner's permit. There is no upper age limit. You must have an instruction permit while learning to drive. Your accompanying driver must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid California driver license.

An instruction permit doesn't permit you to drive alone, not even to a DMV office to take the driving examination.

If you're not confident that you can pass the driving test,

call (925) 933-3181, and make an appointment for driving lessons, or a brush up.

A Professional Driving Instructor from Safestway Driving School will alert you to what shortcomings you have if any, and show you how to correct them.

PERMIT REQUIREMENTS FOR TEENS

  Teens,

To get a learners permit  you must be 15 1/2. However if you are not 15 1/2 and would like to get a head start and do driver training, after completing driver education Safestway Driving School can issue you a student license that allows you to take driving lessons with an instructor from Safestway Driving School. A student license does not allow you to practice with any one except an instructor from Safestway Driving School. The cost for a student license is $2.00.

Or if you are 15 1/2 or older but under 18 years of age, upon completion of driver education you may apply for your learner permit. The cost for a driver license is $31.00, this cost includes the written test for a learners permit.

If you're under 18, in order to take a driving test you must have completed both driver ed. and driver training, practiced with parents, or some one over the age of 25 for 50 hours, held your permit for 6 months, and be 16 years of age.
